Added in: Mambo Sam here - I am adding in a copy of the rosary prayers here at the beginning of this transcript as well as some information about how they are used in New Orleans Voodoo Rituals:

Information about New Orleans Voodoo Prayer Beads: The prayer beads are made a certain way that has been taught by Marran Samantha in the Tuesday Night Chats. You may refer to those transcripts for full instructions on how to make the beads.

These prayers are also the opening prayers to New Orleans Voodoo Ceremonies. After reciting The Lord's Prayer, The Hail Mary, and The Apostle's Creed, these prayers are done in a "call and response" fashion with the prayer group leader first saying the prayer with the congregation responding, "Merci." Then the group says the prayer with the leader replying "Merci, Bon Dieu." ("Thank you" and "Thank you good God.") When the prayers are done in the group fashion, they are recited three times: One time by the leader, one time by the congregation, and then one last time by the leader.

1. Prayer to the Baron:
Baron, ma cher * I ask that you lift me up, do not let me touch the ground. Don't let hands grasp me and pull me down. Bury my problems where they cannot find me. Veil me from my enemies so they cannot bind me. I have come to honor you and ask your help with: : __________________________________________. Thank you! ("Merci" if done in a group setting.)

2. Prayer to Legba:
Big Papa Legba, ma cher. I am knocking, will you let me in? I am knocking, will you let me in? I am knocking, will you let me in? Your child waits at the door. Big Papa Legba, let me in. Open the door and help me with:______________________________________________. Thank you! ("Merci" if done in a group setting.)

3. Prayer to Ogoun:
General Ogoun Feraille, ma cher. I am in need of your strength. I feel weak and am suffering. Only your strength will sustain me. Lift your sword to me and let me ride the blade. Let me borrow the blade of your strength and cut through this problem:__________________________. Thank you! ("Merci" if done in a group setting.)

4. Prayer to Agouer:
Capitan Agouer, ma cher. Here I am. Do you see me in the water? In the water it is cold and dark. My fears and troubles are drowning me. Pick me up and put me on your ship. Let me be warm and dry. Feed me and let me sip your rum. Take me to your warm shores. Leave _____________________________ in the water and wash it out to sea with your great waves and never bring it ashore to me. Thank you! ("Merci" if done in a group setting.)

5. Prayer to Damballah:
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (this is a sound made like the sound one makes to quiet people down - could also be like a snake hissing). I am listening to you Damballah, ma cher. Let me hear your voice. I will be still and listen to hear the voice of Damballah. I am confused and uncertain. I need your guidance and wisdom on _______________________. Fill me with your peace and serenity. Whisper in my ear, great Damballah. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Thank you! ("Merci" if done in a group setting.)

6. Prayer to Erzulie Freda:
Beautiful Erzulie Freda, ma chere. You are the mistress of the world. Bless me with your beauty, grace, wealth, and wisdom. Hold my sorrow in your hands. Unsalt my tears and spill them on the ground. Grow something beautiful where they fall. Create beauty for me in this_____________________________. Thank you! ("Merci" if done in a group setting.)

7. Prayer to Sobo:
Grand and glorious Sobo, ma cher! Bring down** your wealth and riches on me. Walk with me to the door which opens to your riches and magickal places. Let me see the gold in the trees and plants and water. Your gold is everywhere. Bless this ____________________________ with spiritual riches you also guard. Let them flow over me. Thank you! ("Merci" in group setting.)

8. Prayer to Simbi (Makaya):
Simbi, oh, ma cher! I honor your great and powerful magick. Take me with you behind the great closed door. Take me to your house. Tell me the magickal word, hochet***. Show me the bottom of the magickal bottle. Light the candle for me in ____________________________. Thank you! ("Merci" in a group setting.)

9. Prayer to Grand Bois:
Grand Bois, ma cher! Great tree that stands alone, send me your strength. Stabilize my roots. Steady my hand. Ready me for what is to come. I have prayed for relief, guidance, wealth, and beauty. I now ask you to help me face_________________ and grow the best that can be for me. Thank you! ("Merci" in a group setting.)

*Pronounced mah cher - like Cher the singer). Basically, it is "My Dear" in Cajun.
**Literal translation of "bring down" - though is generally meant as "shower me with."
***Pronounced, "ho-shay" - New Orleans Voodoo rattle akin to the asson in Haitian Voodoo.

[Candelaria] When we left off with MaMere, we were talking about your rosary prayers and how to properly use your rosary beads. We will continue with that this, evening, but first, Bridget and I want to hear your Fet Ghede stories. Does anyone want to share, that participated in the ritual?

[Candelaria] Anyone do a purple bath or anything after?

[bridget] I did!

[Destiny] Me too!

[bridget] OK — just fyi I know I have bloggheria

[Candelaria] Awesome, Destiny would you like to tell us about it?

[Candelaria] heehee Yes, you do, Sister Dear, and I love you for it!

[Candelaria] Awesome, and while we are waiting for Destiny...

[Destiny] Well, during the Fet Ghede celebration I felt a bit rowdy, was it the Ghede?

[Candelaria] Wait, there she is. :-)

[Sunshine] Me too — by the way can you repost your blogs as my computer crashed and I lost everything — and I do mean everything.

[Candelaria] Yep, it most likely was! They love to have fun and are kind of a rowdy bunch, which is why you should always call on the Baron first, to help control them.

[Destiny] Then after the bath, I am more organized and I find myself not procrastinating.

[Candelaria] That’s great, Destiny. How did you feel during the ritual?

[Destiny] It was a combination of the rum and the Ghede I think I was having fun and laughing and a bit rowdy but not too bad.

[Happy] I feel a weird sort of relief like everything will be ok

[Destiny] But if my children walked in, they would wonder what the heck I was doing and who I am laughing with! lol!

[Candelaria] That’s awesome!! It is our New Year, so there’s supposed to be fun and laughing and dancing and we are all alcoholics.

[Candelaria] Right Bridget?

[Happy] And yes Destiny was definitely rowdy that night wink wink.

[Destiny] And I DID try to drink the rum with red pepper in it and I was choking and it was funny

[bridget] Yes, for Christmas I’m getting moved up on the liver donor list

[Candelaria] Yep, that’s my sister! You have to be a drinker to be in our family!!

[Candelaria] That’s so wonderful Destiny and Happy, how did you feel before and after?

[Destiny] Bridget, I still want to see you drunk!

[bridget] I heard a song on the radio by Jimmy Buffett called the Desperation Samba — sounded quite a bit like a Banda.

[Candelaria] Go ahead Destiny.

[Destiny] Is the Banda that dance performance?

[bridget] No, I don’t think they were doing the Banda that I noticed.

[Destiny] What is a Banda?

[bridget] Its a kind of provocative dance that is done during a Fet Ghede ritual , and also I think at Day of the Dead as well.

[bridget] You can hit Google and I’m sure you will see a better explanation.

[Destiny] Oh cool. I think I was trying it!

[bridget] yes , I’m sure we all were doing some version of it.

[Candelaria] Yep!

[Candelaria] It’s half the fun of Fet Ghede!

[bridget] Go ahead, Waiting.

[Happy] No, mine still has not arrived — but not taking it as a bad sign. Poor Berkeley still trying to track it down.

[Candelaria] It will arrive when the timing is perfect, I’m sure. :-)

[simonegreenewpp] So with the baths, we get the bar of soap to use afterwards. Mine still isn’t done from the “Big O” bath. But I’m guessing I should finish with the soap before I do another bath?

[Candelaria] Finish that bar of soap before starting a new bath ritual. That’s correct. The soap is an extension of your ritual, like adjunct work of sorts. It keeps the energy going, so wait for that to be finished.

[simonegreenewpp] Ok. It hasn’t had the same “effect” since, but I am reminded of the work and the power of the bath when I use the soap!

[bridget] yes, when you use the soap, concentrate on the same thing you did in the bath.
