And it might be helpful to go look at it before we get
really started. So, I don’t know how many of you got a chance to watch the
video that I put up there. But if you haven’t, it is definitely something you
can use for ritual purposes. It is quite moving if you just sit and watch it
and listen to it even if you listen to it a few times in a row before doing a
ritual.

[Mambo Sam] Okay, so before we start talking about Legba as
the trickster I wanted to touch a little bit more on using something like that
video as an aide to your rituals. Since that one in particular happens to be
Papa Legba, you could use that for any ritual opening — either just having it
play on your computer or sitting in front of your computer. If you really start
to get into the rhythm of it, you will start to understand a little bit about
ritual possession and how it comes about. A person who is possessed isn’t
usually just sitting there sipping tea and bam they are possessed. And if you
see that somewhere, then beware... you may be being fooled and seeing a fake
possession. Most of the time possession comes through ritual. And preparation.
NOW, the difference is that when you are a big ceremony like
that and a priest or priestess has prepared the area, and others are doing the
dances and or songs, this means that almost everyone is prepared in some way
and could be possessed. :-) When I suggested that you try some of the
dance steps in the video and dance along to the song, it wasn’t so that you
would necessarily get possessed. In fact, I generally recommend that you don’t
get possessed if you are alone. I mean if it happens, it happens. And no Lwa
would hurt you. But you can sometimes get a little banged up because they are
settling into the body. But you can feel it coming on — you will start to get a
little bit dizzy and a little bit of a feeling of floating outside of your
body. You are being displaced so that the Lwa can use your body.
The real downside of being alone when this happens is mainly
that you don’t get to talk to the Lwa. But if you have a Voodoo buddy in your
area, you can actually facilitate possession and I am going to teach that at
the conference. Anyway, don’t be afraid that you will be possessed just because
you try a few dance steps and sing along with a song. :-) It is unlikely.
However, doing those dance steps and singing songs does invite Les Lois and
that, as we all know, is what we want for our rituals. :-)
[Mambo Sam] So questions before we move on to the subject of
Legba the Trickster? Okay... so

[Silica] Must the dance steps be absolutely correct? Sorry

[Mambo Sam] No... it can take years to learn them all, but
just getting into it and trying some of it certainly shows that you are a
devoted Vodouisant. :-) Also, did you all notice how they were very loose
in their movements? Arms sort of just swinging around and backs arched and
loose? Again, that is a preparation for the possibility of possession — dancing
and yet being relaxed and limbs loose. :-) But no Silica, no harm to
trying them out! And thanks for asking! It was a good question.

[Rattle Shaker] I liked that in the video, the people danced
like they were opening a door, bowed low while they backed up, and then turning
360, like the sun around the earth, and then repeating the steps. That, to me,
showed a lot of Legba in all that they were doing.

version of the yanvalou which is a dance that is done usually in two rows and
has a little bit more structure to it. However, it has a lot of those same
movements in it. :-) And yes, it did show a lot of Legba.

[Mambo Sam] Oh definitely. And I plan to leave it right

dance steps really made me think of Legba in his Lazarus aspect, with the

things to many people, and I certainly can see that as a possibility. :-)
I am blessed to have been involved in those kinds of dances and rituals and it
really took me back to it. But I have to say that this kind of media
availability is a wonderful thing. But for sure, just as you said, it would
definitely bring out a lot of the aspects of Legba in one’s mind. :-)

some prior transcripts... I am just not sure which ones. But, especially not
when using gris-gris bags because you already did the ritual. :-)
[smile4me] So these types of rituals such as in the music
and in the video, or just lighting candles and petitioning in general.
[smile4me] I got side tracked sorry. The ritual in video is
just in addition to, or in preparing for a particular ritual such as that to
Papa Legba?
[Mambo Sam] The ritual in the video is a piece of a much
larger ritual/dance/celebration. That was a very small piece of a larger thing
that was happening. But the piece could be used to help for any ritual, since
in any ritual you would be calling on Papa Legba first.

The things I teach here are to strengthen and embellish the work that you

could do that — I mean you could use the video a number of ways. You could use
it to be playing while you set up your own altar and things. You could use it
to just sit in front of before you get started so that you are “feeling it. Or,
just as you said above. :-) The thing of it is this: It IS a video of an
authentic ceremony. There is an “energy pattern” of that ceremony that stays
with the recording of it. You can definitely feel it and that is the power of

[Mambo Sam] I couldn’t tell about authenticity with the rest
of them, so I didn’t want to actually recommend them. ;-) But for sure it
is interesting to look at.

[Mambo Sam] And I would definitely encourage everyone who
has the time to look around on YouTube for similar types of things. Don’t be
confused though — some of it is just crap. However, you can still sometimes
learn from them. Yes, some of them are Santeria rituals. And are actually
calling upon Ellegua.

ways. Just that Santeria is way too bloody for me! :-D

then I was done — I took my Elekes and my Warriors, and even though I loved it,
it was just too freaking bloody for me. In Vodou they eat everything they kill.
Not so in Santeria — it is like a blood bath sometimes. And then the animals
are wasted. I have some inherent personal issues with that, but that doesn’t
make it a bad religion, just not the one for me. Thanks, Paris!!! :-)

[Mambo Sam] Okay, so now back to that little ole trickster
Legba! So I know so many of you are working on love cases that I wanted to
share that part of the Legba personage with you and how it can be useful to
long term cases. I know that many times on a long term case you can literally
just start to feel like the energy is plateauing. You will have tried many ways
to get across to your HD and many times it seems that nothing is working. So
sometimes a little swift kick in pants might be necessary. :-) We have
talked about some other ways to do this, but I do like asking Papa Legba to do
something. Especially to do something he really likes!
You will see a lot written on the internet about how if you
make Papa Legba mad he plays tricks on you. And that they are dirty and dark
tricks. Eh? It always blows my mind when I see that. I often wonder, do you
know who you are talking about? So don’t ever believe that stuff. Now, there
are some “Legba like” deities, such as Eshu and Exu who are known to be able to
do tricks that are sort of evil — for a price that you pay them, but that is
different. They are not Papa Legba. Not the Papa Legba of Vodou and New Orleans
Voodoo..... Often Eshu and Exu are called Legba! And they use his image to hide
behind to do deeds, but that is a whole nuther lesson!

[Mambo Sam] So for most of you, you have done spell kits,
and are working on adjunct work, and have done a lot of the rituals, etc., etc.
This whole idea of sending a little surprise “trick” to your HD falls right in
there with adjunct work. It is something that we will definitely cover with the
overall ritual that we do, but it is a piece of that. However, you can
definitely petition Papa Legba to do a little trick on your HD without having
to do the whole ritual.
Think about this — it is something that Papa loves to do. He
is truly, for the most part, a jovial fellow. I mean, heck, he holds the keys
to the kingdom. :-D What’s not to be happy about?? ;-) The
important thing is that you want to give him a good idea to work with your
HD... you don’t want to just petition him to pull a joke on your HD. That won’t
really help you. But what if, say for instance, your HD heard your name 6 times
in the same day? And then saw three people who actually sort of looked like
you. That would definitely put you right there in his/her mind.
So what good does that do you? Well, it is great that s/he
is reminded of you. BUT, because you have petitioned properly, Papa Legba can
make that little “coincidental” event have the desired effect. So that when you
are creating the “joke” or “trick” — you are also going to petition for the
desired effect. Now, you need to make the desired effect a bit simple.... Not
“when it happens, s/he is going to the jewelry store and buying me a wedding
ring and calling me up and proposing and buying me a car, too.” ;-) But
something more to the effect of, “when you get my HD’s attention and s/he is
thinking of me, s/he will be reminded to call me.” or “is reminded that s/he
truly does love me and want to be with me.”
So what you are looking for is a one-two punch and not more.
One: Wow — s/he is suddenly and startlingly overwhelmed with
thoughts of me.
Two: Is compelled to do something about it or FEEL something
about it right then.

bring about — oh she was such a sweet girl — like if he hears a special song.
You want it to shake him out of his reverie.

really gets his attention?

Hmmmmmm.... maybe, but not really — it needs to be something
that is ordinary, but perhaps repeated or at first might seem like a
coincidence, but as it goes along, it just is so overwhelming that the person
is really kind of blown away by it.

extraordinary.
[Mambo Sam] This, of course, depends on the person and what
one knows about them — so when you know things that they do all the time and
you can play into that, that is great. Yes.... Exactly — ordinary that becomes
extraordinary. ;-)

dealing-with-an-intruder’ story. Is this an okay place to tell it? Or should I
save it for another time?

:-) It might give someone an idea! :-D
[phantodrac] So, ‘once upon’ a time’ there was an intruder
in my situation (who was a real meanie) that my HD would only mention by part
of his first name. So, I had almost nothing to go on regarding magical
workings, not knowing much about the person I was trying to send away. So, I
asked Papa Legba to help me out against these near impossible odds. Well, I
took a shot in the dark and entered this person’s very common nickname into a
search engine. And what do you know? Nearly the first thing that pops up is
this person’s information (I later verified it). Using this, I was able to more
effectively use things like brown candles and the like... And the intruder is
now out of the picture. Now, in telling this, I am in NO way endorsing snooping
around or plain old stupid behavior. I am just pointing out a circumstance when
Papa Legba helped me overcome almost impossible odds to get me information.

— it was impossible odds!! And so that is a very good illustration of Papa’s
power, especially when he has something to go on and you took the leap of faith

kit, my HD went missing, and after the MYLM kit, 3 months later called me
because we both watch college football, and his team was playing my team. His
team beat mine, and he had to call and rub it in. Well, college football is
getting ready to start, and his team and mine play each other the second game
this year. So, to capitalize on that, I can see how the trickster could help me
here with him watching not just that game, but building during the whole
college season and thinking good thoughts of me whenever he is watching a game.
[Mambo Sam] Oh yes.... See that is perfect. That is the kind
of thing that you can really play on. Pardon that pun.

[Mambo Sam] Think of ways that when he is watching that
game, things happen that he would see your name everywhere... you have a fairly
common first name — so you could definitely use that in such a way that it is
just everywhere.

[Mambo Sam] And/or that people in the stands look like you
to him (that is a mind trick that Papa can play — it isn’t that 50 people there
actually look like you, but that your HD thinks they do!) There are all kinds
of little goodies you could come up with because, as you say, you have a season
of it to work with and to build on.

this: An elaborate practical joke has many levels and elements to it to make it
truly work out in the end. Now, of course, we are using “practical joke” as a
model for what we want to accomplish because we are looking for a serious
result. But there is nothing wrong with taking a “fun” approach to a serious
outcome. ;-)

“joke” — where it is best to keep it simple is in the result for which you are

with your HD — like, for example, sharing really heinous grammatical errors in
corporate memos & newsletters, making bad puns, or poking fun at a silly
phobia of his or yours — you could ask Papa to bring a few of those reminders
his way in quick succession, to really remind him of you? Sort of give him a
few “Oh, I wish I could share this with her right now!” moments? We used to IM
each other at work all the time about those things, & I’ve been hoping he
misses that as much as I do!
[Mambo Sam] Utterly purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect. Yes. That
is exactly the right idea — something you are familiar with, something that
reminds you of each other, and something that could happen in quick succession
like that. :-)

[she-wolf] I had one of those moments myself earlier this
week – I actually heard one of our marketing geniuses ask someone, “Is
‘darkened’ a word?” — and I know how powerful those little reminders can be!

[Mambo Sam] Yep.... So we all kind of know to do that in our
work — ask that they be reminded of you, etc. So in these cases we are asking
for more than that — we are asking for something irrefutable in its
“memory-jogging” ability. And that it leaps out at them and makes a fast, deep impression.
So yes, that would be perfect! Thank you!
So these things that have to do with other peoples’ cases;
these can be examples or templates for all of you. These are the kinds of
things that you can use. It is just that you are asking for the difference
between a fleeting thought of you and getting hit by a Mack truck with your
picture on it. ;-)

you can ask that whatever reminds them of you is enhanced and brings about a
certain result. Honey, you know a lot about your HD; what he does for a living,
his child’s name, where he has an apartment, etc., etc.

[Mambo Sam] So regardless of what he thinks of you, you can
enhance that. You know he does think of you and perhaps in a “certain way” —
you can even use that information to work a little trick on him.

yet, but you can and will. You may have to think about it and ask Papa to help
you, but if you start writing things down, you will see! It will come to you.

good wake-up kind of thoughts about me, but at the time I couldn’t think of
anything and then something happened right after I said that, but I am
wondering if I can e-mail you privately to say what it was because I don’t want
to state the circumstances publicly just in case?
[Mambo Sam] Yes, however..... I am really behind in e-mail
readings right now and am working hard to get caught up, so I may not be able
to answer you right away. It’s okay, I knew what you mean. :-D And you
should all know that.... I am behind on things and am putting in a lot of hours
to catch up — so I may not be quite as accessible as I would like to be.

write up your idea and have it ready to paste in. I do want to share them
because I think it will help for everyone to get ideas from everyone else. This
is a little bit of a complicated way to handle this, but it is one of those
things that can kick start a waning case.
The other thing is to remember to write out a clear reaction
or result that you want to achieve when doing this. Again, it is best to keep
it simple. You want this startling thing to happen and you want this particular
result.

up. ;-) In that way, it is more realistic to hope for an actual reaction
and action on the HD’s part.

And then as a result he wants to see me instead?
[Mambo Sam] Yes. And even though it is case specific, it is
germane to many of the folks here... If your HD is having “bad habits” which I
know some of yours do, you can use this to shake them up and try to get them to
drop those bad habits and replace them with you. It is something that probably
isn’t going to happen the first time around. However, it could definitely make
an impact on them. So, yes, Mandee, you could. :-)

ending the sessions with some prayers for everyone. In the future, we can wrap

[Mambo Sam] But for tonight I would like for us all to take
a moment before we say goodnight to think of these petitions that I know some
people need. Next week we can do specifics. So take a deep breath and relax for
a minute.
As a group we have great power to do things together. We are
all connected in a very special way and can call on the power of this group to
help us.
Two of the group of facing surgery. We petition for
successful surgery and swift recovery.
Three people have sick pets that they love dearly and we
send our energy to their recovery.
Three HD’s have serious substance abuse problems that we
send our energy towards having them beat these addictions and live healthy and
happy lives.
One person here is depressed and sees no hope. We ask that
this person hang on and feel that there is love and support and that there is
hope for a happier time.
One person has a sick parent and is frightened of the
possibility of this potential loss. We ask that this person have the strength
to face this possibility while we also ask for the recovery of the parent.
One person here is confused and afraid about they want and
what they have done. We ask that this person see clearly and know that they
have done the right thing; the future will bring happiness.
One person is sad that life is passing them by and doesn’t
see how they will ever live the life they want. We ask that they see that there
are always possibilities and life can and will be good for them. Just hang on a
bit longer.
Someone here is living in fear and doesn’t know how to solve
their situation. We ask that they find their way out of this situation and find
the answers to getting the life they deserve.
Three people here are suffering periods of despair and
hopelessness. We ask that they know in their hearts that things will turn
around for them. All is NOT lost and there is much hope for them to draw from.
And now we ask that anything that is troubling anyone here,
and it was not mentioned, that they receive the loving energy and support that
we all send them. And that this troubling thing will be swept away from their
lives and replaced with the goodness and joy they so richly deserve.
Put your hands out in front of you and see the rays of light
that are now emanating from them. Rays of light are shining from your
fingertips. Those rays of lights are aimed at each and every one of us and we
all benefit from this moment together. As we leave, keep in mind that as you
help everyone else, you receive their help, too!
I wish you all a good night and know that I love you and we
all send love to each other.
