Chat May 21, 2008

[Mambo Sam] Good evening, everyone. Good to see you all here! We will get started here in just a minute.

[ouanga_bottle] Hello dear Mambo Sam and friends!

[Mambo Sam] I wanted to mention that I have not been able to upload the transcripts from the past two weeks because we are undergoing a server upgrade. Of course, no good can ever come from that and they had to screw up a part of it. I guess we are lucky they didn’t knock the whole website out. :-)  Anyway, as soon as I can upload files again, I will upload the transcripts. That is where the problem actually is, the upload function. So, they are supposedly working on it. It took my a little while to figure out why the heck the transcripts weren’t showing up. I kept thinking they were uploading — it looked perfect on my end, but then it didn’t show on the website. Just gave me a blank page. Turns out they weren’t uploading at all. So as soon as they are done with the server upgrade, I will upload them all.

[ouanga_bottle] They clearly don’t follow ISO 9001 standards

[Mambo Sam] Well, they are very reputable — it isn’t some fly-by-night company and for the most part they are very wonderful. In 7 years, we have never had a major problem.

[ouanga_bottle] :-)

[Mambo Sam] So I suppose in that aspect I cannot complain too much. Well, I guess I can, but what’s the point.

[Aleck] Mambo, that is ok, no one else does this that I know of, and I appreciate the opportunity!

[Mambo Sam] :-)  Okay, so bottom line, we will get all the transcripts uploaded here eventually.

[Mambo Sam] So how many of you have something you would like to present tonight? Hands up.

[PATRICKinCALI] Hand up

[mamakate] hand up

[Mambo Sam] Okay, just the two of you? No one else presenting tonight? Don’t be shy! ;-)

[simonegreenewpp] I have a little more but did most of it last week...

[Aleck] I have been thinking about what you said about how to call them.

[Sister Candelaria] I’m ready. Sorry.

[Aleck] Or call on them.

[Mambo Sam] Okay, Simone. So do you have more to present, Aleck?

[Aleck] Yes, I guess. ; )

[ouanga_bottle] Sorry I don’t mean to be a negligent student, it’s been a whirlwind lately.

[Mambo Sam] The assignment was completely optional. I just don’t want anyone who wants to present to get left out. :-)  So since Aleck and Simone did present something last week, let’s have Patrick, Mamakate, and Sister Candelaria go first. Anyone else ready to present tonight?

[sister bridget] I would like to — sorry I lost my internet for a minute

[Mambo Sam] Okay, good.  Mamakate, what time zone are you in?

[mamakate] eastern

[Mambo Sam] Okay, well, let’s let Mamakate and Sister Bridget go first because it is late for them, then Patrick and Sister C. If we have time, then Aleck and Simone can add to what they had last week, if they desire.

[Sister Candelaria] Okie by me. :-)

[PATRICKinCALI] ladies first

[mamakate] okay. I’m pretty much a vampire so if Sister B wants to go first it’s okay.

[Mambo Sam] :-)

[Mambo Sam] Sister B. do you want to kick us off?

[sister bridget] Ok sure—

[Mambo Sam] That’s kick us off, not kick us. ;-)

[sister bridget] So— I feel a little bad and I don’t want to take anything away from sister C, but quite independently...

[Sister Candelaria] Nah, go ahead. Explain WHY WE ARE SISTERS! :-D

[sister bridget] ;-)   we came up with the same person

[Sister Candelaria] :-D

[Mambo Sam] :-)  Nothing wrong with that.

[sister bridget] So — I worked on items for Sir William Wallace of Scotland.

[Mambo Sam] :-)

[sister bridget] Here is my prayer

[sister bridget] Passionate patriot of freedom Courageous leader of the oppressed Devoted Knight of ellerslee Sir William Wallace, Hear my request! No shade of fear or weak despair has ever crossed your brow Brave was your heart Mighty your sword I seek your steadfast assistance now.

[sister bridget] I found 2 songs written just for him that I really liked, So I think I might try those out. One was called the Flower of Scotland, and another was written just for Sir William and it is sung on the anniversary of his death. So, I think I would like to try those out ;-)

[Mambo Sam] Very nice. So, can you tell me a little bit more about why you feel he was a living embodiment of Ogoun?

[sister bridget] Yes, I felt that connection because Sir William was such a fighter for the oppressed, that he was not motivated by material gains. He took no land, no wealth, he could not be bought by the king or the nobles. He fought for the poor people and their independence. That really drew me in to his story. OH— and that he carried a really big sword ;-)  That helped too!

[Mambo Sam] :-D  :-D  :-D  There IS that!

[sister bridget] Yes! There is a sword purported to be his at a memorial in Scotland. It is HUGE!

[Mambo Sam] :-)

[Aleck] Hahaha!

[sister bridget] So — that story really resonated for me.

[Sister Candelaria] Love a man with a big sword.

[Mambo Sam] Er...  Okay, so....

[Sister Candelaria] Oops, sorry, that was supposed to be inner monologue.

[Mambo Sam] I think most of us have the picture of William Wallace in our heads from Braveheart. If you are calling him in ritual, is that how you picture him, or some other way?

[sister bridget] I actually found a picture that reminded quite a lot of Ogoun.

[Mambo Sam] Great!

[sister bridget] It was called WALLACE IN BATTLE. So I think I will use that

[Mambo Sam] Maybe when I can upload things again, we can all submit pictures, etc., and I will upload them.

[sister bridget] As most scots, from what I read, didn’t feel the movie was very true and they don’t appreciate the movie representation of things.

[Mambo Sam] Yeah, I would kind of want to get Mel Gibson out of my head as far as calling on him! :-)

[sister bridget] Yes ;-)

[Mambo Sam] I mean I thought the movie was great, but... right... not terribly realistic.

[sister bridget] That is what I was reading, but the picture is really great. Maybe I can post it to the forum? Then folks can see it?

[Mambo Sam] Yep, probably. Still I do want to put all this together when I can post the transcripts, so I think both would be fine. :-)

[sister bridget] And for the altar, I researched his tartan and his shield. I think I can get something close at a local highland festival this summer ;-)  So he can have his own stuffs!

[Mambo Sam] Very nice!  Ah, and you could use that shield as I taught in the Ancient Secrets class. ;-)

[sister bridget] OH RIGHT!

[Mambo Sam] I like it all.

[sister bridget] Whew!  I am glad! I always hated going first in school ;-)

[Mambo Sam] Very well done! LOL. Not me, I was an ass, I always wanted to set the bar as high as possible for everyone else. :-D  :-D

[sister bridget] ;-)

[Mambo Sam] Just kidding, of course.

[waitingforastar] :-D

[Mambo Sam] Okay, that was nicely done, Sister Bridget.

[sister bridget] thank you, MaMere.

[waitingforastar] Well you’ve set the bar high for other Mambos

[Mambo Sam] Thank you WFAS!

[waitingforastar] You’re welcome

[Mambo Sam] Let me interrupt for a minute, of those of you who were late, did any of you have anything you want to present so I can put you on the presentation list. Okay, so no one else? Okay, moving along.  A round of applause for Sister Bridget, please.

[waitingforastar] I don’t have a presentation but I think Jean-Jacques Dessalines sounded close to Ogoun. He was a good war strategist and a take no prisoners kind of guy.

[schweety] ?

[simonegreenewpp] Yay, Sister Bridget!

[waitingforastar] Thunderous Applause

[mamakate] ditto

[PATRICKinCALI] Thanks Bridget! (Miss you)

[Mambo Sam] Yes, Jean-Jacques is an accepted living embodiment of Ogoun.

[sister bridget] awww. Thank you all ;-)

[Mambo Sam] Clap, clap, clap!! :-)

[The3rdwish13] clap clap

[Sunshine] Good Job Sister B—

[Mambo Sam] Yes, Schweety?

[schweety] Yay Sister Bridget, and I missed the last couple of weeks due to other circumstances so I feel sort of lost, are the transcripts gonna be up soon ? *blushes*

[Mambo Sam] I explained earlier, but I will repeat it since so many of you were late — the server is undergoing an upgrade and I haven’t been able to upload anything that is why they are not up. As soon as I can, I will upload them. But the assignment was already up there, and nothing has changed about that.

[schweety] k thank you, sorry I was late :-)

[Mambo Sam] No problem.

[Mambo Sam] We will do this one more week and then we will move on. So anyone who still wants to put together a presentation, please feel free and we will then wrap this up next week with some final tips on how to use the information. Again, thank you Sister B. Mamakate, are you ready?

[mamakate] Yep I’m ready. I typed up the whole thing — do you want me to paste it all at once or in pieces?

[Mambo Sam] I think it will only let you paste in so much at a time. So I would break it up. Plus we might want to discuss parts of it as we go.

[mamakate] Okay. Must be Sir William is anxious to work with us! Here’s the first part...  I was more or less hit on the head with this one. Anyone I thought of just didn’t seem right and I was about to give up when Braveheart came to mind. I’d call on the spirit of William Wallace not only because he was a warrior of his people and their freedom, but because he was creative in his strategies. Where others saw no solution, Wallace would keep on until he came up with something that would work. He wouldn’t give up. He had no real family or clan support, yet he rallied the people to his side, I think because he truly believed in what he was doing and stood with them, not above them. He was diplomatic in his dealings with the ‘nobles’ when he needed to be, and I believe he had a ‘romantic’ and compassionate side to him, but he wouldn’t compromise his beliefs or morals.

[Mambo Sam] Right.

[mamakate] I align him with Ogoun because of his skills and strategies in battle, but also because he was a big man. Because of the size of his sword historians figure he was about 6’ 6” or 6’ 7” with a muscled physique. The average size of a man back then was a full foot shorter than that. He was highly educated, could read and write, spoke several languages, was a powerful swordsman, unrivaled archer, and an expert horseman.

[Mambo Sam] :-)  Yes, he was extraordinary in many ways.

[mamakate] His passion was the freedom, liberty and rights of the individual. In the movie Braveheart his father came to him in a dream and said “Your heart is free; have the courage to follow it.” Whether this is historically accurate or not doesn’t matter — it struck me as something important to always keep in mind; and to me it pretty much sums up what William Wallace was all about.

[Mambo Sam] Absolutely!

[mamakate] To represent him on the altar I’d probably use a Scottish sword or a smaller replica of his own sword, a black horse (why black I don’t know), a picture of the Wallace Coat of Arms maybe… For food I’d make a beef pot pie (Forfar bridies was a traditional dish in his time), some drop scones, and maybe a glass of beer. If I needed to use a number for some reason, I’d use the number 8 because his fight for the freedom of Scotland lasted only 8 years before his death. A song I could play would maybe be the Cry of the Celts from the Braveheart soundtrack. I would probably picture him as Mel Gibson in the movie though — he was pretty hot and that sure doesn’t hurt to picture someone you’re working with like that does it?

[schweety] :-D

[Mambo Sam] :-D  I don’t think there would be any objection to that.

[Aleck] Hahaha! Excellent!!!

[mamakate] I’m glad to hear that! That’s my presentation. I couldn’t really come up with a modern song that I thought fit though

[Mambo Sam] That’s fine. I think that was excellent! I have to really agree about the strategic qualities and the never-give-up qualities. There is something about Ogoun that makes him work against what might seem like insurmountable odds. In fact, I have found that he likes the odds to be stacked against him. ;-)

[mamakate] Oh! I forgot my prayer

[Mambo Sam] I was going to ask you that. ;-)

[waitingforastar] I like how Ogoun thinks ;-)

[Mambo Sam] Go ahead when you are ready, Mamakate.

[mamakate] Sir William Wallace, bravest warrior and defender of the people, hear my call. Lend me your strength of mind and conviction to reach my goal. Show me the path when I lose sight of it and solutions when I see none, and keep me motivated when I start to lose heart. You did this for an entire nation, please do this for me now.

[Mambo Sam] Very nicely done! :-)

[mamakate] Thanks!

[Mambo Sam] I can certainly see how that would appeal to him in a ritual with Ogoun. Very well done.

[mamakate] I’m really glad to hear that! I am a very nervous student...

[Mambo Sam] Aw, don’t be nervous!  So, when you were done with this, did you feel that this made you closer to Ogoun, too? I mean, could you feel a connection between the two of them?

[waitingforastar] That is an awesome prayer, I love it.

[mamakate] I felt I had Ogoun’s okay when I was researching, actually I think he might have been the one to hit me over the head with the idea, Thanks WFAS!

[The3rdwish13] comment...

[Mambo Sam] Guys, hands up, please.

[waitingforastar] Sorry

[Mambo Sam] Could very well be, Mamakate!  3rdwish, go ahead, please.

[The3rdwish13] I was touched by that prayer Mamakate. Really beautiful... Thank you for sharing it with us!

[mamakate] :-D Thanks 3rd Wish, that means a lot

[The3rdwish13] :-)

[Mambo Sam] Yes, very, very nice. But don’t be nervous, Mamakate! :-) I think just making an effort is fabulous! Then when that effort produces something wonderful, it is even better!

[mamakate] You all make it so comfortable here, even though I’ve never met any of you I feel at home.

[Mambo Sam] :-) This is definitely meant to be a safe environment! No one should ever feel afraid or stupid for asking a question or sharing their feelings.

[mamakate] It’s really the one peaceful night/time of my week.

[Mambo Sam] :-)  Perfect.

[Aleck] :-)

[Mambo Sam] Well, my dear... take a bow! Round of applause for Mamakate, please.  Clap, clap, clap.

[sister bridget] excellent job, Mamakate!

[REDANGEL] Great Job!!!!

[mamakate] bow, with a little teary-eyed blur

[The3rdwish13] love it

[Mambo Sam] :-D

[Aleck] :::clapping:::

[simonegreenewpp] Great work!

[waitingforastar] Clap clap clap whistles

[mamakate] I’m blushing! 50 years old and I can still blush!

[Mambo Sam] :-D Me too — though it does take a lot.

[Aleck] awwww!

[schweety] yeahhhhhhh clap clap woot woot

[mamakate] yes it does, esp being married to a marine!

[Mambo Sam] :-D — sailor on my part.

[mamakate] Ha ha ha!!!! That’s just too funny!

[Mambo Sam] Thank you, Mamakate. It was all lovely.

[mamakate] :-D  No, Thank You!

[Mambo Sam] Okay, well, if Patrick has William Wallace, too, I am going to turn off the computer and start an altar to Ogoun and William Wallace TONIGHT!

[PATRICKinCALI] Pierre Touissant!

[Mambo Sam] Ah, awesome, Patrick. Are you ready?

[PATRICKinCALI] Yes, please bear with my typing folks

[Mambo Sam] Just go ahead when you are ready. Next time, consider typing it out then pasting it in. It’s easier on the fingers! :-D

[PATRICKinCALI] I would be remiss in not telling you about this gentleman’s life, his is a story of charity, loyalty and patience. When I am through I do want to share what I found profound in similarity to Marie Laveau. He was born to a slave family in Haiti, but he was educated and was an indoor slave. His Master moved to NYC and took he and his sister with them. His master made it possible for him to become a hairdresser, and he was sought after by many of the elite. They looked to him as an advisor and confidante. Eventually the Master died. The Mistress offered him his freedom, but he would not leave her alone with no breadwinner. He remained with her, supporting her until her death with the good income he was making. He knew she would not allow a non-spouse free man to support her. He bought his sweetheart’s freedom (Juliette), but did not marry her until after age 41, the mistresses death.

[Mambo Sam] Love the loyalty factor!

[PATRICKinCALI] Once married, they opened their home to orphans, the destitute, bought slaves’ freedom, and even opened their home to the sick and dying during a fever epidemic. He paid for education and gave money for people to start their own lives. He contributed to the first Black Catholic School in NYC. Pope John Paul II declared him “Venerable” in 1995 (1st of 3 steps to Sainthood). The Vatican is researching 2 miracles of healing in his name right now

[Mambo Sam] Wonderful!!

[PATRICKinCALI] For colors/candles I would choose red and blue, the Haitian Flag colors. Offerings: Mango, Cornmeal Porridge, spiced cocoa and rum.

[Mambo Sam] Nice! And a nice Big Red Apple! (For NYC!) ;-)

[PATRICKinCALI] Songs...the traditional hymn “Faith of our Fathers” or Lean on Me (contemporary). Altar wares: Barber scissors, comb, and a crucifix (not just a cross). He had to endure a lot of ridicule being a free man of color in those days, plus his devotion and loyalty to causes make him a great alliance in spell work

[Mambo Sam] Absolutely.

[PATRICKinCALI] Now for the prayer: Knock three times saying Charity, Loyalty, Patience

Most Venerable Pierre Touissant, whose dignity and honor served the lowly, lost and ill, look upon me as you did the many you have served. Humbly, I ask you to see the purity of my heart and intention. I pay honor to you and ask that you assist me with the needs I bring to you today (say petition). Instill in me the attributes of your patience and strength of your resolve. In honor of you and your virtues, I will look upon my fellow man with the same respect and understanding. Thank you Pierre Touissant for hearing and assisting me with what weighs upon me this day.  amen!

[Mambo Sam] Amen! :-)

[PATRICKinCALI] PT worked side by side with St Elizabeth Seton furthering black education. The correlation of hairdressing and Marie Laveau, in addition to her alliance with Per Antoine, really struck me

[Mambo Sam] Right.

[PATRICKinCALI] Google his name, hit images and you’ll see the Ogoun in him! He wasn’t no Jose Eber!

[Mambo Sam] :-)  :-D

[PATRICKinCALI] OK all done, thank you!

[Mambo Sam] Very well done!!

[PATRICKinCALI] Forgive the Catholic slant folks! :-)

[Sister Candelaria] YEAH!!!!!!!

[PATRICKinCALI] I am what I am!

[Mambo Sam] I think the loyalty factor is huge in correlation with Ogoun. I mean this man truly personified loyalty in putting his life on hold for someone else. And all of Vodou has a Catholic slant. ;-) So you never need to apologize for that.

[PATRICKinCALI] And PATIENCE regarding spellwork, and you look at all of PT’s patience waiting to be with his love.

[Mambo Sam] Right. The patience factor is something that we could all benefit from.

[PATRICKinCALI] but respecting his loyalty to his Mistress (meaning Mistress of the house)

[Mambo Sam] Right.... Even though at that point he did not have to. That showed a major piece of character that was rare then and even rarer now. Beautifully done, Patrick!!! Take a big ole bow!

[PATRICKinCALI] Thank you, hope I didn’t bore!

[schweety] yeahhhh woottt wootttttttt

[REDANGEL] Wonderful Job Patrick!!!!!

[sister bridget] three cheers for Patrick!!!

[Mambo Sam] Round of applause for Patrick!! Not boring at all and I loved your prayer, too! Very nicely done.

[mamakate] terrific, very heartfelt prayer! Not boring at all!

[waitingforastar] Very well done Patrick, not boring at all

[The3rdwish13] love it

[Aleck] Hip hip hooray!!! :

[simonegreenewpp] It was very interesting, and I hope he becomes a saint soon!

[sister bridget] awesome prayer!

[PATRICKinCALI] Thank you

[nubis] I’m sure it was THE BOMB!

[waitingforastar] Hoots, whistles, claps

[clairefalconer] sorry I missed the whole thing — stepdaughter came over unexpectedly!

[ouanga_bottle] awesome!

[Mambo Sam] Well, it will all be in the transcripts when I can get them uploaded. NO worries.

[clairefalconer] Great

[Mambo Sam] Very wonderfully done, Patrick.

[PATRICKinCALI] Thanks

[Mambo Sam] No thank you!!!

[PATRICKinCALI] :-)

[Mambo Sam] I appreciate the participation from you and everyone who has participated thus far! These have been excellent efforts!!

[Mambo Sam] Okay, the lovely and talented Sister C. Are you ready?

[Sister Candelaria] Yes, MaMa! :-) Although that’s a bit like following Justin Timberlake in a talent contest. heehee

[Mambo Sam] :-D

[PATRICKinCALI] Ha! My Mother is proud!

[Sister Candelaria] But Patrick is Waaaaaaaay cuter! ;-)

[Mambo Sam] Oh, I think you can hold your own, Aretha.

[Sister Candelaria] heehee

[Mambo Sam] ;-)  And yes, he is. Cuter, that is.

[Sister Candelaria] Well, here goes... “I am born...” No just kidding. Here it goes for real...

[Mambo Sam] :-D  God...

[Sister Candelaria] OK, so as you know, I chose William Wallace, the same as my Sister and MamaKate did. :-) Long before Mel Gibson ever picked up a broadsword, I was working toward a history minor in college and the history of the British Isles fascinated me. I was drawn to the Scottish people and their quest for freedom from the English crown, which still wages on today, and at the time that I was a student, The Stone of Scone, which is a large flat stone that all Scottish monarchs were coronated on prior to Robert The Bruce, had been installed under the throne of England by Edward the Long Shanks, and it remained there until very recently.

Anywho, the story of William Wallace held my attention and I really felt for the man that just wanted his basic human rights returned and his country to be left alone. (And Sister Bridget is right, the movie is a fiction, but some of the high points were correct. Most Scots don’t like the movie for what it said, but it did draw attention to their plight and because of the movie The Stone of Scone was returned to them by the English government. :-)

To open, I would set an altar for Ogoun, St. George, and William Wallace. Then, I would place my griffe for him on the altar and I would put out all of the things I have for Ogoun, such as flags, some metal weapons, butterflies, and give him something to eat and drink... rum of course. For St. George, I would most likely put out a picture of him, plus some water (I would probably set out something for him to eat, too, but would probably decide that closer to the ritual). For William Wallace, I have created a griffe that has a broadsword down the middle with a thistle plant on one side and the Scottish Coat of Arms on the other.

[Mambo Sam] Right.

[Sister Candelaria] I would then put out some fresh baked bread and some porridge and if I could find some haggis (disgusting stuff, since most Scottish food must have been created on a dare, don’t know if I could make too much of it! lol), but most likely I would get him some other type of meat and potatoes... stick to his ribs type of dinner... something that I don’t have to hold my nose to cook. :-D I would have a candle out for each one.

[Sister Candelaria] OOPS, hang on

[Mambo Sam] Good, thought I had a stroke for a minute there.  Mmmmmmm, haggis....

[schweety] :-D

[simonegreenewpp] It’s not bad!

[Sister Candelaria] Don’t know why it went back to the beginning before, but here’s the rest. heehee

[Sister Candelaria] I would call upon Ogoun, per our usual ritual, and then ask St. George to join us, then I would call upon William Wallace... each candle being lit as I called upon that particular spirit. Then, I would let everyone know who was here, and encourage them to meet each other and greet each other, to make for a nice, friendly atmosphere. After that, I would say a prayer and sing a song to Ogoun and then for William Wallace, I would play the Iron Maiden song, The Clansman, which was written about him (and I think it would really get the joint jumping... because of course Ogoun loves Heavy Metal heehee)

[Mambo Sam] Oh, nice touch Iron Maiden!

[Sister Candelaria] and I would read to him from the writings of Blink Harry, the wandering minstrel that kept Wallace’s tale alive by putting it into poem form and performing it throughout the British Isles. After that, I would say my prayer to William Wallace and then I would sort of call them all together as a group to gather round so we can discuss the matter at hand. I would tell them the overall plan and what I hoped to achieve and then ask from each one, in turn, how I think their particular talents might best serve my cause and then most respectfully ask them to lend their help to me, but sort of get them riled up, like troops you are sending into battle. We would strategize and come up with a war plan and then send them in to battle!

For my prayer, I chose something simple and to the point... no flowering stuff for this guy...

Oh William Wallace, protector of Scotland, Hear me. I need Your Strength and Wisdom this day. I seek Strength, William Wallace, to conquer my greatest enemy. I seek Wisdom, Sir William, to learn from the lessons you have learned. May my hands be your hands, with the strength and power to defeat my foes May my ears be sharp, to hear your voice as you lead me through battle. And may I walk by your side, as we fight to a swift and decisive victory

And that’s pretty much it, so far. Have to work on the haggis. heehee For those that don’t know, it’s a sheeps stomach filled with all kinds of um... spare meat parts, and mixed with oatmeal and various sundry items. heehee. Good Scottish cuisine. :-D

[Mambo Sam] That is a great prayer — very much a lead into battle type of prayer.

[Sister Candelaria] Oh good! That’s what I wanted!

[Mambo Sam] Yeah, I have to agree that most Scottish cuisine was developed on a dare... and I am Scottish! :-D  At least part, anyway.

[Sister Candelaria] heehee Love the people, hate the food! But they make a fine whiskey! heehee

[waitingforastar] :-D

[Mambo Sam] And that makes up for it all.

[Sister Candelaria] RIGHT! Enough whiskey and you don’t really care what you’re eating! heehee

[Mambo Sam] So, in your approach, we are looking as going into spell work as battle. And that is so often true because we are fighting so many obstacles sometimes — intruders, fears, negativities. It might be love, but it is also war. So taking a “warring” approach makes perfect sense. :-)

[Sister Candelaria] Good, thank you! That’s what I was going for. I’m sending my troops into battle for me!

[Mambo Sam] And, of course, Ogoun won’t ever object to that! :-D

[Sister Candelaria] Nope, he just wants to be a part of it! :-D

[Mambo Sam] I think it is really interesting that three of you had William Wallace and yet you took three different approaches and all three were pure and right on the money!

[Mambo Sam] :-)

[Sister Candelaria] :-D

[ouanga_bottle] That really was quite a sign

[Mambo Sam] Patrick’s approach was very much on the point of loyalty and patience, with Pierre Touissaint.

[Aleck] Really!

[Mambo Sam] And that is something that we all need to apply in our spell work. So all the approaches that were presented tonight were like looking at the same subject through a prism — lots of angles and shards of light — all good! And yes, I would have to agree that William Wallace has been knocking on the door. ;-)  So before we wrap up and give Aleck and Simone another quick turn — does anyone have questions for the people who had presentations tonight? Feel free to ask any questions if you like. No questions for anyone? Okey dokey.

[waitingforastar] comment

[Mambo Sam] I have to go in a few minutes, but if Aleck and Simone want to add to their presentations from last week, please let’s do that. Oh, WFAS, go ahead with your comment.

[waitingforastar] 3 cheers for Sister C

[Mambo Sam] :-)

[waitingforastar] :-D

[nubis] comment

[Sister Candelaria] Aaaaaaah, thanks WFAS. ;-)

[waitingforastar] :-)

[schweety] woottt wootttt woottt

[Mambo Sam] Yes... just a minute.

[schweety] flash flash :-)

[Mambo Sam] We have to have her take a bow.

[ouanga_bottle] smashing!!!!!

[Mambo Sam] Take a bow, Sister C.

[Sister Candelaria] :-D and Schweety is flashing me!

[schweety] :-D

[simonegreenewpp] Yay! Great presentation!

[PATRICKinCALI] Very nice Candi, after that prayer I am ready for battle!

[Mambo Sam] Wow.... now that’s a sight to see!  :-D

[schweety] Just seeing if anyone would notice *blush*

[Sister Candelaria] Aaaaaaaah, thanks everyone! I’m getting all misty over here! Sniff, sniff

[waitingforastar] throwing roses at her feet

[mamakate] and thistles!

[Sister Candelaria] OK, I’ve been at this too long...

[PATRICKinCALI] and booze!

[Mambo Sam] :-)

[Sister Candelaria] my first thought with the roses at my feet was, “I can give those to Erzulie!” :-D

[waitingforastar] :-D

[Mambo Sam] LOL.

[ouanga_bottle] lots of booze

[Sister Candelaria] Oh, the booze I will Keep! :-D

[Mambo Sam] Ah... they know you too well, Sister C. :-D  Did you take your bow?

[waitingforastar] :-D

[Sister Candelaria] Yep, I did! Thank you, everyone!

[PATRICKinCALI] bow dammit!

[Sister Candelaria] bowing, very, very low...  Thank you!

[Mambo Sam] ;-)  Awesome.

[Sister Candelaria] Now let’s do battle!! heehee

[Mambo Sam] Yeah, baby! I feel invigorated!

[Sister Candelaria] YEAH!!!!

[waitingforastar] Me too

[ouanga_bottle] That was really inspirational

[Sister Candelaria] Awwww, thanks, Ouanga, Baby!

[Mambo Sam] Indeed, Ouanga. It was.

[Sister Candelaria] ;-)

[ouanga_bottle] And I just got my Ogoun kit today in the mail, so I am rearing to go! All of these were absolutely fantastic!

[waitingforastar] Isn’t that a cool kit?

[nubis] Mambo, I just want to thank you for doing these chats. I have learned so much in the last year, just through the chats.

[Mambo Sam] Aw, you are welcome, Nubis! :-)

[waitingforastar] I second that

[simonegreenewpp] I second it, too! (third?)

[Mambo Sam] So Aleck... Simone??? (Thank you WFAS.)

[Aleck] Those presentations were great! I just had a short invocation that I had written. It pales in comparison with the prayers presented tonight, but a good beginning, I think.

[Mambo Sam] Nothing pales in comparison to anything! It is all uniquely wonderful. Go ahead, Aleck.  :-)

[Aleck] It is.. Crispus Attucks! You were a Revolutionary, defender of the underdog, Champion of Freedom, Please come and hear me. I am a revolutionist, an underdog and a champion for freedom. I need your help. ….This is what is going on and this is where I need help….. (Petition as appropriate).

[Mambo Sam] Yeah! And this is also a good approach — the underdog approach.  The “hey I am just one of the people trying to make a better life for myself.” It is appealing and works well for petitioning in this way. It is also no nonsense and gets to the point. I like it! See, nothing pale about it. ;-)

[Aleck] Thanks! :-)

[PATRICKinCALI] Straight and to the point, love it!

[Mambo Sam] Thank you! Yep... and the invocation was good, too.

[waitingforastar] Love it, a no nonsense prayer.

[Mambo Sam] Oh, sorry...  nevermind. ;-)

[Aleck] I thought it might be like a brotherhood bond.

[Mambo Sam] Right.

[Aleck] too

[Mambo Sam] Definitely. Perfect.  :-)

[Mambo Sam] Simone??

[simonegreenewpp] Genghis Kahn, first known as Temuchin: You united many groups into a great empire, brought civility and stability. You are persistent, strong and unconquerable, and also wise, peaceful and changeable. I ask for your help with these qualities and more.

[Mambo Sam] oooooooooooooooohhhhh.... yeah... I like those analogies there.

[simonegreenewpp] I admit, I’m also inspired to add more after reading the other prayers tonight!

[Mambo Sam] Those three first qualities mirrored on the next three qualities are quite inspired. You are on to something there — keep that part and definitely elaborate on it because it shows a lot of the growth we experience when doing ritual work. It shows much of what we strive to become.

[simonegreenewpp] Thank you! I found a page that said “Genghis” means water, and went on with the various qualities of water. Especially anyone who has experienced flooding knows its power! Thank you!

[Sister Candelaria] Comment for Simone

[Mambo Sam] Right.... I think water is the most powerful force in the world. Lovely — a double bow for Aleck and Simone.  :-)  And go ahead with your comment Sister C. Clap, clap, clap.

[Aleck] :::bowing:::

[Sister Candelaria] I often use water as an analogy for spellwork... It’s like water wearing away a stone. It might not happen all at once, but it is powerful and gets the job done.

[Mambo Sam] Hootin’ and hollerin’  :-)

[simonegreenewpp] Bowing!

[Mambo Sam] Absolutely Sister C.

[waitingforastar] Amen Sister C

[Mambo Sam] And a big round of applause for Alex and Simone. Let’s hear it, folks!!!

[waitingforastar] Hooray for Alex and Simone

[Mambo Sam] :-)

[Sister Candelaria] YEAH!!!! HOOOT HOOOT!!!

[mamakate] applause, applause!!!

[PATRICKinCALI] Clappity clap

[DestinyB] Clap clap! wow! All are amazing and inspirational. :-)

[Mambo Sam] I think everyone should be very proud of themselves! You all did a great job and I am really quite moved by what you have done. Now if any of the rest of you wish to present next week, please feel free. We would all love to hear from you.  :-)

[Mambo Sam] Okay, I am going to run for now. See you next week and hopefully I can get all this posted soon. Silly server upgrade!  I love you all!!!!!  :-)  Good night.
