[Candelaria] Hi Everyone! :-) The
Mambo Lady should be here any second. ;-)
[heavenbls5]
Hello
[Mambo Sam] Hello everyone! Good to see you all back for
more. :-)
[heavenbls5] hello
[Mambo Sam] So tonight I wanted to
continue our discussion for our
upcoming ritual with the three
Simbis.Since we only have this week and
next week to get the
ritual down before doing it, I am going to talk about
the two
remaining Simbis tonight: Simbi Dlo and Simbi Makaya. I realize
that
many of you may already be somewhat well versed in Simibi
Makaya.
[Mambo Sam] But there is sometimes not so much written
about Simbi Dlo, or
he gets lumped in with all the other Simbis.
So, he is Simbi of the Water.
One thing that is really interesting
about him is that he is often very
shy and withdrawn, especially
at larger Vodou gatherings such as large
dances at peristyles,
etc. Sometimes a person can be possessed by him and
ends up
standing outside of the peristyle until someone figure out that
there
is a possession going on!
[Mambo Sam] But he has some
extraordinary talents that we are going to
use, well, ask him to
use in doing our ritual. One of the powers that he
has is to
silence someone. :-) He is very quiet himself and so he is said
to
have the power for silencing someone. This is something
extremely
useful to us because “to silence” is often a
goal in spell work. We might
be trying to “silence” an
intruder. We might even be trying to “silence”
our HD!
For instance, if the HD is saying things that you don’t
like,
“silencing” him/her from saying those things
could be very helpful to your
spell work. So using Simbi Dlo’s
powers to help in silencing someone could
be extremely useful. So
in using Simbi Dlo’s power of the ability to
silence
someone, we are actually kind of doing a “boca tapa” type
of spell
— this is a spell that is very prominent in
Santeria and some other
Latin/Hispanic magickal practices. So
there are a number of ways that you
will be able to think of, I am
sure, for petitioning Simbi Dlo. :-)
[Mambo Sam] By the way,
by the time we have class next week, you will have
had time to
think about what you want to accomplish in your ritual. I will
leave
next week open for asking questions on how you can word
your
petitions, or any other questions you have of how to put this
all
together. :-)
[Mambo Sam] So, our dear shy Simbi Dlo is
really a great ally to us all
for this ritual. I am pretty sure
that almost all of us can think of
someone we want to silence! And
that isn’t a bad thing!! Think about this:
If someone is
being negative in your life, shutting them up is not a bad
thing
for either of you. Because, of course, when you “silence”
the
negative, you will also petition for that to be replaced with
positive.
:-) So, yes, you can pick and choose, what part of
dialogue with someone
you want to silence.
[Mambo Sam] So,
the basics: Simbi Dlo is served with white. There is also
sometimes
service to him with silver and even light blue. But in
most
traditional circles, it is white. His offerings are fresh
water,
cucumbers, and white creams — like sour cream and
whipped cream, even milk
— though I didn’t find that
he was really thrilled with milk the last time
I did a service to
him! :-D Maybe it was because the time before I had
given him a
bowl of whipping cream. I didn’t whip it, just poured it
out
into the bowl. He was probably thinking, “I want my
whipping cream, to
heck with this milk!”
[Mambo Sam]
Hang on one second, I want to paste in a song for him.
Gwo
Lwa, gwo pwen-m, Simbi nan Dlo (x3),
Djab la rete bo rivaj l’ape
gade, Simbi sa ou we, pinga ou pale.
(Big Lwa, my big point,
Simbi in Water,
the “djab” (sometimes interpreted as
evil spirit, but more as a paid Lwa —
Lwa achte’ sent
to do a job, very often misinterpreted as “the devil.”)
stays
besides the shores, he is watching. Simbi what you see, you
don’t
speak).
[Mambo Sam] When we do this ritual, we
will sing a song for each of the
Simbi’s. Like I was
mentioning last week, it is not so important that you
know the
tune of the song. Putting it into a “chant” form is fine,
or even
make up your own tune, or fit it to a tune of another
song. The reason
these songs are important, and it is important to
sing them as much as
possible in the Kreyol in which they are
written is because they are
familiar to the Lwa! The recognize
these songs and, thus, recognize YOU!
[Mambo Sam] You are a
friend.
[Mambo Sam] You are family.
[Mambo Sam] You know their
songs!
[Mambo Sam] These songs are not new, these songs have been
sung, I would
venture to say, millions of times to these Lwa. It
is a sure way to get
their attention. ;-)
[Mambo Sam]
Before I go on to talk about the song, questions anyone?
[luke39]
?
[schweety] ?
[Mambo Sam] Luke, then Schweety.
[luke39] can
Simbi Dlo be used to silence addictions of any kind?
[heavenbls5]
?
[Mambo Sam] I certainly could see the usefulness of a portion of
that. For
many people, a particular addiction involves a group
setting — friends of
the same addiction.... “silencing”
the group could certainly be useful.
[Mambo Sam] Does that make
sense?
[luke39] yep, so it is more about people than a particular
habit
[Mambo Sam] I can also see where one might be able to
“silence” the
dialogue that goes on with one’s
self regarding an addiction. It might be
tricky, but I think it
would be worth a try.
[luke39] k
[schweety] what if you
screw up the pronunciation?
[Mambo Sam] Schweety, with
pronunciation, just do the best you can. These
songs are sung all
over the world by many people with different accents,
etc.
[schweety]
k ty :-D I’m sure the Lwa sometimes go what was that ???
:-)
[REDANGEL] ??
[the3rdwish13] ??
[Mambo Sam]
Heavenbls, Redangel, Thirdwish
[simonegreenewpp] ??
[heavenbls5]
I was here last week, but I was unable to write the song down
for
Simbi Andezo.
[Mambo Sam] Heavenbls — that song will be in
the transcripts, no worries. :-)
[Mambo Sam] then
Simone.
[Mambo Sam] If I missed you, just let me know.
[Mambo
Sam] (And please wait to be called on, thank you all!)
[the3rdwish13]
Can I ask him to help ME be silent?
[Mambo Sam] :-D — yep.
Just be sure you know what it is and
ask
appropriately.
[the3rdwish13] That’s what I need
:-P
[Mambo Sam] Redangel... did I get you?
[REDANGEL] Sorry
I was a little ahead of myself;)
[Mambo Sam] That’s okay,
but did I answer your question?
[Mambo Sam] Oh, you didn’t
have one?
[REDANGEL] I don’t have one ready just yet
[Mambo
Sam] :-D Gotcha!
[Mambo Sam] Okay, Simone?
[simonegreenewpp]
Regarding addiction, sometimes it’s a reaction to
negative
feelings of self-worth, so could Simbi Dlo silence those
negative
inner voices?
[mamakate] ?
[Mambo Sam] Certainly
worth a try — though honestly it would be better if
the
addicted person was trying that for themselves. But I think
an
outsider could certainly give it a shot! It never hurts to try
any kind of
healing like that. Especially with addictions, they
are very hard to get
to respond to healing, but that doesn’t
stop us from trying. :-)
[simonegreenewpp] Thank you!
[Mambo
Sam] You are welcome!
[Mambo Sam] Mamakate?
[mamakate] I
wasn’t here last week, are the latest transcripts in the
new
forum?
[Mambo Sam] No, I will e-mail everyone who is
registered for chat when
they are ready.
[mamakate] Terrific,
thank you!
[Mambo Sam] And we will go over it as a whole next week
because once it is
all together and we are trying to figure out
what you are going to be
doing with it, I think we will need some
q&a time!
[Mambo Sam] Okay, did I miss anyone out there?
Please let me know.
[Mambo Sam] Okay, so back to the song. I am
going to paste it back in, in
case it has rolled off of anyone’s
screen by now.
Gwo Lwa, gwo pwen-m, Simbi nan Dlo (x3),
Djab
la rete bo rivaj l’ape gade, Simbi sa ou we, pinga ou
pale.
(Big Lwa, my big point, Simbi in Water,
the “djab”
(sometimes interpreted as evil spirit, but more as a paid Lwa —
Lwa
achte’ sent to do a job, very often misinterpreted as “the
devil.”)
stays besides the shores, he is watching. Simbi
what you see, you don’t
speak).
[Mambo Sam] So,
basically, we are singing for Simbi Dlo to come to our
ritual. We
will have set up altar space for him. We will have his
offerings.
Now we want him! This song refers to his “powers” by
saying
“what you see, you don’t speak.”
[Mambo
Sam] Sometimes it is difficult to interpret the Kreyol songs
because
they are sort of in riddles and have veiled meanings. A lot of
the
songs have a deeper, more intricate meaning to those who have
kanzo’d
(become initiates) because the words are actually
sometimes substituted
for the actual word that is meant. If you
know what one word means, then
you tell someone, they are supposed
to tell you what the other word means
— then you know they
are kanzo. :-)
[Mambo Sam] So here in this song, just briefly, we
are referring to Simbi
Dlo’s “point” (pwen —
a lot of you know that word) — his point in magick.
What he
is known for.
[Mambo Sam] The key then is in the last line.
[Mambo
Sam] This song is fairly straight forward — some of them so
veiled
that you have to pick them apart to figure out what the
heck they are
talking about for real! So, what is important for
you to know about this
is that this is the song to call him and it
also tells you something about
him. :-)
[Mambo Sam] So any
questions about the song?
[Mambo Sam] No?
[mamakate]
?
[simonegreenewpp] What does it mean? :-)
[ouanga_bottle] I
admit it’s confusing... :-)
[Mambo Sam] Go ahead
Mamakate.
[mamakate] Can we sing the English words or should it be
in Creole?
[Mambo Sam] You two can put your hands up! LOL.
[Mambo
Sam] Sing it in Kreyol.
[mamakate] Ok, I’ll give it a try!
:-D
[Mambo Sam] If you know any French, the pronunciation is
somewhat the
same. Also, there are actually a few Kreyol teaching
sites online now that
will give you some pronunciation
guides.
[mamakate] wonderful, thank you for that!
[Mambo
Sam] So Simone.... ouanga.... where are your hands?
[ouanga_bottle]
(snort)
[Mambo Sam] ;-)
[ouanga_bottle] question
[Mambo Sam]
Yes, ouanga. And simone, too! ;-)
[ouanga_bottle] I really want to
better understand that last line? “What
you see, you don’t
speak”
[Mambo Sam] Okay, it is the line that actually is
encoded to tell you what
his powers are.
[ouanga_bottle] I
don’t mean to be obtuse...
[Mambo Sam] Now of course, we are
trying to translate Kreyol into English
and sometimes it doesn’t
quite get into English as well as one would like.
On the surface,
it means he can keep a secret.
[ouanga_bottle] So are we talking
about seeing with his mind or other gifts?
[Mambo Sam] No matter
what he sees, he won’t tell. What he sees, he won’t
tell.
He will not talk about what he has seen.
[simonegreenewpp]
??
[waitingforastar] ?
[ouanga_bottle] So his powers are that
he can keep a secret?
[Mambo Sam] No.
[Candelaria] May
I?
[ouanga_bottle] heh heh
[Mambo Sam] His powers are that he
can silence people.
[ouanga_bottle] Gotcha. Man I’m
slow!
[Mambo Sam] Are you drinking again? :-D
[ouanga_bottle]
haaaaaaaaaaa :-D
[Candelaria] Well, Sweetie... we weren’t
going to say anything...
[ouanga_bottle] Champagne!
[Candelaria]
heehee
[ouanga_bottle] Thank you dears
[Mambo Sam] Okay,
Simone, Candi, then waitingforastar
[ouanga_bottle] Long day at
work.... :-)
[Mambo Sam] It’s okay.
[simonegreenewpp]
Something I’ve wondered about various songs —
[Mambo
Sam] Sure, go ahead.
[simonegreenewpp] There might be a line that
clicks with me, I might “get”
a meaning... But it
might not be the “right” or official meaning.
[Mambo
Sam] Oh but it might be! :-)
[simonegreenewpp] Is that something
they are meant to do, be a bit vague
so our personal knowledge or
experience fits in?
[Mambo Sam] Honestly, these songs have so many
meanings layered into them
that just figuring out totally what one
song means can take quite awhile
and then you may not have it all!
LOL. But honestly to answer your
questions it is my belief that
these songs have evolved to encompass many
things, especially that
which you are talking about. A meaning to you
might not be a
meaning to me, but that doesn’t make it less valid. In
some
songs, there are some things that are “academic”
in their correctness.
[Mambo Sam] For instance, in the song about
LaSiren, where there is a line
“my hat fell into the sea”
— this is “academically” known to be a
phrase
concerning being possessed by the Lwa. So, uh, the answer
to your question
was yes!
[simonegreenewpp] My original “what
does it mean” was being a bit silly.
Then again, sometimes a
banana is just a banana...
[Mambo Sam] :-D Right.
[Mambo
Sam] I mean there is a song “Legba is standing at the gate.”
Well
guess what that means.
[Mambo Sam] Yep — Legba is
standing at the gate.
[simonegreenewpp] A banana? :-D
[Mambo
Sam] So yes, sometimes it is very obvious. LOL, right.
[Mambo
Sam] Okay, waitingforastar, go ahead, please.
[waitingforastar]
Does it mean he wont tell what he sees in the situation,
or wont
tell what he sees us do? Or Who will he keep silent?
[Mambo Sam] I
know you were a little bit late, but what were talking about
earlier
is that Simbi Dlo is often petitioned for silencing people
—
silencing negativity, etc. The “won’t tell
what he sees” is more or less
symbolic and the real meaning
is encoded in that line. I mean really, who
would he actually
tell? :-)
[waitingforastar] Oh I see, how about silence their
negative influence
over someone?
[Mambo Sam] Yes, and we will
discuss that next week when we take questions
on exactly how we
will each configure our ritual. :-)
[waitingforastar] Ok,
thanks:}
[Mambo Sam] Anyone else?
[REDANGEL]
??
[simonegreenewpp] ??
[vodoukat02] ?
[Mambo Sam] Yes
Redangel, then Simone, then Vodoukat Assuming Redangel has
a real
question this time! :-D
[REDANGEL] When we do call upon Dlo do we
make it specific or can it be
general like silence all negative
from all sources or just concentrate on
one? Does that make
sense?
[Mambo Sam] Yes, and that is going to depend greatly on
what you are
trying to accomplish with the ritual as a whole. I
think you will see what
I mean when I explain a bit more about
working with them as a trio.
Mostly, however, we want to be
specific.
[REDANGEL] K thanks, :-P
[Mambo Sam] You are
welcome.
[Mambo Sam] Simone?
[simonegreenewpp] Would a
literal meaning be silencing a gossip?
[Mambo Sam] Literal and
ritualistically — absolutely.
[simonegreenewpp] Ok, thank
you!
[Mambo Sam] Silencing the intruder — that they no
longer say “I love you”
to your HD. The list goes on
and on. :-)
[Mambo Sam] Vodoukat?
[vodoukat02] can you ask
to silence more than one person?
[Mambo Sam] Yes.
[vodoukat02]
Thank you
[Mambo Sam] Once you configure the ritual, you can pick
and choose which
parts of your case, or life than you want to
address.
[Mambo Sam] You all will actually have a little bit
more leeway to add
more things than you might normally because you
will be petitioning three
powerful Lwa at the same time. Even
though you could run the risk of
spreading things too thin (and we
will talk about that), you can ask for
more than perhaps one
normally would at once.
[Mambo Sam] Okay, so shall we move on
to Simbi Makaya?
[creaturefever] ?
[Mambo Sam] Oops, go ahead
Creaturefever
[smile4me] ?
[Mambo Sam] And then Smile4me. Are
you out there Creaturefever?
[creaturefever] Is the silence
something that will cease emotionally as
well or will the person
shut the trap... but build up the negativity
within?
[Mambo
Sam] This kind of “silence” is very deep. And this is a
good
question, thank you.... think of the submersion in total
encompassment,
like being under water. It is that kind of silence
and goes to the core of
a person. Does that make
sense?
[ouanga_bottle] ?
[vodoukat02] ?
[schweety]
?
[creaturefever] Yes and thanks
[Mambo Sam] Okay,
good!
[Mambo Sam] Smile4me, Ouanga, Vodoukat,
Schweety
[smile4me] Can this silence the actual negative thoughts
that may be had
by hd so that they will no longer be an
issue?
[Mambo Sam] You can certainly ask! It depends, too, on what
those negative
thoughts are related to, but remember, we will also
be pulling the power
of the other two Lwa to make a whole package
and some of those issues may
be addressed in total. So, a lot
depends on what each individual is trying
to accomplish as well as
the individual upon whom they are working.
[Mambo Sam] It is not
so much a “one size fits all” type of thing, but
there
are some basic parameters we will be working with. Make
sense?
[smile4me] That gives me an idea... yes it does
[Mambo
Sam] Good!
[Mambo Sam] Snort, er Ouanga — go
ahead.
[ouanga_bottle] Ha aaaaa.... You kind of touched on this
earlier, but
could we call on him to silence negative
thoughts/feelings of self-doubt
and depression in one person, and
anger in another person, and silencing
gossip in another? (running
the risk of spreading the request too thin...)
[Mambo Sam] Right,
BUT like I said, under normal circumstances, for
instance, say one
white image candle you wouldn’t do all that. But this is
a
pretty big ritual. :-)
[ouanga_bottle] :-)
[Mambo Sam] And
something most people can’t do every day like a nice
candle
magick kit. :-)
[ouanga_bottle] hee hee
[Mambo Sam] So it is a
“gimme” time ritual, honestly.
[ouanga_bottle] It
won’t confuse them to give them a list of requests?
[Mambo
Sam] I kind of like to limit things like to three or four requests
—
even in a big ritual. I mean three or four of one kind of request —
for
instance, say you need four people to be silenced. Then that
would be
fine. And then you could move on to the other parts of
the ritual.
[ouanga_bottle] Gotcha, makes total sense!
[Mambo
Sam] But if you have 20 people to be silenced, it is a bit
much.
[ouanga_bottle] Yeah, I’d say you might need to do a
few services if
you’re in that much trouble! :-D
[Mambo
Sam] :-D Right. Good?
[ouanga_bottle] good!!!
[Mambo Sam]
Right on.
[Mambo Sam] Vodoukat?
[vodoukat02] Can you ask to
silence all intruders or potential intruders
like other women
wanting to be with your HD and vice versa for the HD?
[creaturefever]
?
[Mambo Sam] I can’t see that being effective. Not in this
— remember, this
is a bit different in with whom we are
working. Simbi Dlo is very direct.
He is gonna need names and
numbers for the most part. ;-)
[vodoukat02] Oh, ok. I get it....
thank you
[Mambo Sam] BUT, you could ask that he silence your HD’s
talking to other
women. :-D I could see that for sure.
Because you are naming the HD.
[vodoukat02] cool....... thank you
Mambo
[Mambo Sam] You can’t name women you don’t know
— like stopping them from
talking to him.
[Mambo Sam] You
are welcome.
[Mambo Sam] Schweety, Then
creaturefever
[schweety] You can request for the person to be
silenced but does free
will play a part in the person’s
response?
[Mambo Sam] Free Will always plays a part in any magick
that I will teach
you. However...
[Mambo Sam] In this kind of
petitioning you are opening the idea up of
turning someone’s
attention away from something.
[ouanga_bottle] ?
[Mambo Sam] I
will explain a bit more about that when we set up the
whole
ritual.
[schweety] k ty
[Mambo Sam] You are
welcome.
[Sunshine] ?
[creaturefever] Can you utilize this
silence to lets say cause distance in
a group of people? Example a
clique of not so nice folks whom have power
as a group and cause a
distance between them and weaken them.
[Mambo Sam] Hmmmm... seems
a little bit vague for Simbi Dlo.
[Mambo Sam] But if you know them
all, you could definitely name them.
[Mambo Sam]
:-)
[creaturefever] k
[Mambo Sam] Ouanga, then
Sunshine
[ouanga_bottle] What about a petition to silence fears,
resistance to
being with us, etc.? Would that make sense to phrase
a petition for him
that way? What about asking to silence the
negative messages of her
church? (snort)
[Mambo Sam] :-D
That is a big petition. Really, this petitioning to Simbi
Dlo is
more direct.
[ouanga_bottle] Yeah, I see it wasn’t so
effective when I tried to
petition the very first LMWA way back
when
[simonegreenewpp] ?
[Mambo Sam] Right.
[ouanga_bottle]
But silencing fear maybe?
[Mambo Sam] That is a big one.
[Mambo Sam] Sunshine, then Simone.... If I missed anyone let me
know, please.
[Sunshine] You stated Simbi needed names —
what if you are trying to
silence an Intruder and this is the only
person? How do you handle this if
you have no name?
[Mambo Sam]
You can get around that by naming the HD — that will give
Simbi
a focal point, and then naming the “woman who
is
around_______________” or “living
with______________.” I mean if you know
an actual person
exists, then you can do it that way.
[creaturefever] ?
[Sunshine]
Oh I see— Thank you— unfortunately the Intruder Does
Exist.
[Mambo Sam] Then you can use the petition in that
way.
[Sunshine] Ok— thanks again
[Mambo Sam] You are
welcome.
[Mambo Sam] Simone, then Creaturefever
[mamakate]
?
[Mambo Sam] Simone, Creaturefever, then Mamakate
[Mambo Sam]
Go ahead, Simone, please.
[simonegreenewpp] Ok, so a large group,
such as “the congregation of the
church” or “the
boys at the pub” is not a good option, but maybe there is
a
different petition (another Simbi) to keep the HD from listening
to
them?
[ouanga_bottle] Very crafty!
[simonegreenewpp]
Seems like a few of us have influential groups.
[vodoukat02]
:-D
[Mambo Sam] But Simbi is not really for keeping the HD from
listening. :-)
It is for keeping there from being anything for him
to listen to. ;-)
[simonegreenewpp] I’m just thinking Simbi
Dlo might not be the one for
that, but one of the other
Simbis.
[Mambo Sam] That is a totally different petition, however,
when we get to
the ritual as a whole, ask me again,
okay?
[simonegreenewpp] Yes, thank you!
[Mambo Sam] ;-)
[Mambo
Sam] Creaturefever then mamakate
[creaturefever] So, are we just
silencing a person — messenger... or the
message itself,
regardless of the source... or both. Stop the gossip or
the
gossiper... make sense?
[DestinyB] ??
[Mambo Sam] Yes, it does
make sense. It is better if you know who you are
trying to
silence. I am not saying it is impossible for any of these
things,
but to make the ritual as efficacious as possible we need to
work
within some parameters.
[creaturefever] Yes I would know
whom and what.
[Mambo Sam] Then yes, for sure. :-)
[creaturefever]
:-D
[Mambo Sam] Good?
[creaturefever] thx
[Mambo Sam]
Mamakate, then DestinyB.
[mamakate] Can you petition to silence
fears or feelings of inadequacy
within yourself?
[Mambo Sam] It
is a bit of a slippery slope there, BUT, if you have a
Vodou
friend, and I bet you can find one here on this forum if you don’t.
I
could certainly see doing that kind of petitioning for each other.
:-)
[Mambo Sam] You know, sometimes working on yourself is hands
down the most
difficult work you will do. But if you have help
from someone else, and
you help them, too, that can work out
pretty well.
[mamakate] Okay, thank you
[Mambo Sam] You are
welcome.
[Mambo Sam] DestinyB
[DestinyB] I just got here
and missed a lot and my family is around me,
will there be a
transcript before the ritual?
[Mambo Sam] Yes. :-)
[DestinyB]
Thank you. :-)
[ouanga_bottle] ?
[Mambo Sam] You are
welcome.
[DestinyB] I changed to DestinyB because of the forum,
you know who I am
still?
[Mambo Sam] Yes, I do, Destiny.
;-)
[DestinyB] :-)
[ouanga_bottle] I know who you are too
sweetie :-)
[DestinyB] Aww. :-)
[Mambo Sam]
Ouanga?
[ouanga_bottle] Have we picked a date for the ritual
yet?
[Mambo Sam] Yes — the day after Mardi Gras —
February 6.
[ouanga_bottle] Oh wait I think I remember
[Mambo
Sam] It will be a Wednesday.
[ouanga_bottle] Thanks!
[Mambo
Sam] :-)
[creaturefever] Really weird ?
[Mambo Sam] Go
ahead, Creaturefever.
[creaturefever] Is this for humans only or
could I ask for my dog to tone
it down a bit... really I am not
making a joke. Kinda be a more silent
pup.
[Mambo Sam]
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... sorry, I know you are not making a joke
but
it is funny. That is so cute.
[vodoukat02] ?
[creaturefever] He
would be cuter at a lower volume
[Mambo Sam] You know, it is
better to petition Papa Legba for the puppy! :-)
[creaturefever]
Thanks
[Mambo Sam] I know what you mean, though, my dog has a huge
bark!
[Mambo Sam] Vodoukat, go ahead.
[vodoukat02] What
about my oldest daughter with her smart mouth?
[Mambo Sam] It
depends on what you want to do with the ritual. You could
do a
small service to him and ask him to shut her up. :-)
[Mambo
Sam] I mean a separate service.
[vodoukat02] :-D She is 12
going on 20
[vodoukat02] Thank you Mambo
[Mambo Sam] You are
welcome.
[Mambo Sam] Okay guys, we need to move on, if that is
okay. We can take
individual petitions and questions next week. We
have got to get to Simbi
Makaya.
[Mambo Sam] Okay, so this is
going to have to be fast.... The third Lwa
will be Simbi Makaya.
He is the “powerful magician” of the group. He
brings
strength, power, and, literally brute force to the ritual.
[Mambo
Sam] So for a minute, let’s see what we have now:
Simbi
Andezo — the strategist
Simbi Dlo, the silencer, and
Simbi
Makaya, the brute force.
[Mambo Sam] Of course, that is a bit
simplistic, but I think you should be
getting the idea that we
have three distinct Lwa who know how to work
together and each
have very different talents. So what is really important
if you
are going to participate in this ritual is between now and next
week
to figure out what it is you want to try to accomplish with
your
ritual and then who could do what. But back to that in a
moment.
[Mambo Sam] Anyway, so the basics — Simbi Makaya is
served with red and
green (in New Orleans Voodoo — now
sometimes you see red and black... but
red is a good bet!).
[Mambo
Sam] Cigars and whiskey. :-)
[Mambo Sam] I find him to be a real
beef eater... I give him raw hamburger
with loads of pepper on
it.
[ouanga_bottle] mmmm mmmmm
[Mambo Sam] Honestly, he just
loves it. And it is an easy offering!
[Mambo Sam] Okay, let me go
get his song — I might have to paste it in two
parts....
Lwa
Simbi Makaya! Dogwe! Map lage pwen a nan men ti moun yo.
Lwa Simbi
Makaya! Dogwe! Map lage pwen a nan men ti moun yo.
Si gen lavi map
peye Houngan, Si pa gen lavi mwen konnen m pa dwe.
Lwa Simbi
Makaya! Dogwe! Map lage pwen a nan men ti moun yo.
The Lwa
Simbi Makaya! Kiss the ground! I let go the “pwen” (power
point)
into the hands of the children (Note: “You” are
the children — the
group.”)
The Lwa Simbi Makaya!
Kiss the ground! I let go the “pwen” into the hands
of
the children.
If there is life I will pay the Houngan, If there is
no life, I know I
don’t owe. (Note: Basically, “if I
do well after this, I will pay the
Houngan, if I do poorly, I will
not pay the Houngan.”)
The Lwa Simbi Makaya! Kiss the
ground! I let go the “pwen” into the hands
of the
children.
[Mambo Sam] Oh, I think we mentioned it last week,
he also is represented
by or offered a whip.
[Mambo Sam] So,
Simbi Makaya is a BIG Lwa. He is gruff and blustery. He is
very
masculine. When you call him and serve him, he puts the “power”
in
the hands of the children.
[Mambo Sam] You are the children.
He expects you to kiss the ground in
front of him.
[Mambo Sam]
So in some circles his song is interpreted to mean that
whatever
you do with the power is your problem — that whole “pay
the
Houngan” part... it doesn’t mean exactly paying
the Houngan in money. The
sort of “veiled” meaning is
that if you use the power and you misuse it
and get some sort of
weird result — don’t come running to him.
[Mambo Sam]
There are some other songs that are misinterpreted as Simbi
Makaya
saying that he doesn’t care what happens to those who serve
him.
But the members of his society, the Sanpwel could certainly
tell you
differently.
[Mambo Sam] What he expects is that you
will use his power wisely. Don’t,
and he isn’t going
to help you out of it. And then you will learn a
valuable
lesson.
[Mambo Sam] But you guys have me to help you. And that is
the other part
of the song that is sort of veiled in meaning —
for the most part, you
should not work with Simbi Makaya without
supervision unless you are an
initiate, OR you are following, to
the letter, the instructions of an
initiate.
[Mambo Sam] A
Houngan or a Mambo. A priest or priestess of the New
Orleans
tradition. Or a Santera or Santero — someone of
serious initiatory status.
[eveningstarmystic] ?
[Mambo
Sam] Yes, Eveningstarmystic.
[eveningstarmystic] This sounds a
little scary
[Mambo Sam] Why?
[eveningstarmystic] Messing
something up and consequences of Simbi
[Mambo Sam] Simbi isn’t
going to do anything to you. That is not what I said.
[Sunshine]
?
[Mambo Sam] That is why you have me here, to give you
instructions to
follow. ;-)
[ouanga_bottle] ?
[Mambo Sam]
Does that make sense, eveningstar? I don’t want you guys to
be
afraid, I want you to be smart! :-)
[eveningstarmystic]
okay
[Mambo Sam] What Simbi says is that if you use his power
foolishly, then
he isn’t going to bail you
out!
[PATRICKinCALI] ?
[DestinyB] ??
[eveningstarmystic] oh,
foolishly... okay
[Mambo Sam] But he certainly isn’t going
to hurt you. :-)
[eveningstarmystic] I was worried if I
messed up I wouldn’t have help to
make things
straight.
[Candelaria] Sweetie, Mambo would never leave you
hanging. I promise.
[Mambo Sam] Ouanga, Patrick, Destiny (you will
always have me to help you
out — that’s the whole
thing in that song — it is telling you to be under
the care
of a Houngan or Mambo :-)
[ouanga_bottle] I think it’s
sunshine’s turn...
[Mambo Sam] Thank you — sunshine...
then the others.
[Sunshine] If we have an extremely stubborn, cold
or callous H/D and have
been working on them a long, long time and
getting nowhere and we would
like to melt them down (or break
their stubborn, cold cycle) it is still
not wise to do a ritual to
Simbi Makaya because of his power and his
strength?
[Mambo Sam]
That’s okay — I am not sure I am quite understanding
your
question, honey. But for stubborn old coots, I would say
Simibi Makaya is
just the ticket! :-D
[Mambo Sam] You see that
song up there — Simbi Makaya is going to give YOU
his power
and strength.
[Sunshine] Sounded like the remedy for my
situation—
[vodoukat02] Yes!!!!
[Mambo Sam] All he asks
is that you use it wisely. ;-)
[Mambo Sam] Did that answer your
question, Sunshine?
[Mambo Sam] I will take that as a yes.
;-)
[Sunshine] Yes, but got the impression that it was more for
the initiates
than someone like me, even tho my situation has been
long — ongoing — and
I am so perplexed — He
sounded like the answer for me.
[Mambo Sam] This ritual is not for
initiates. Initiates wouldn’t need to
be here and learn
this. ;-)
[Sunshine] Ok— Gotcha. thanks
[Mambo Sam] They
already know this. I mean, not that they
couldn’t/wouldn’t
do it! :-D I mean they don’t need to be here to learn
it.
This is for you guys.
[Mambo Sam] Before we go on, I just need
to tell you something as group.
[Mambo Sam] First, I love
you.
[ouanga_bottle] awwwww
[Mambo Sam] I would never send you
down a path of something that would
harm you.
[heavenbls5] we
love you too
[Sunshine] We know that and love you for it.
[Mambo
Sam] Don’t fold up and get afraid when we start talking
about
something powerful. :-)
[Mambo Sam] This is what it is
all about! :-)
[heavenbls5] Oh I won’t I am just
excited
[vodoukat02] me too
[Mambo Sam] Believe me, I will be
there to guide you every single step of
the way!
[waitingforastar]
love you back:)
[Mambo Sam] :-)
[simonegreenewpp] Feeling
kinda... empowered!
[Mambo Sam] YAY!
[vodoukat02] we love you
too Mambo
[ouanga_bottle] xo xo xo
[Mambo Sam] Thank you all so
much. :-)
[Candelaria] Seriously folks. I’ve known her
longer than most and she
would never hurt a hair on your
heads.
[vodoukat02] You should know that I fully trust you by now
as long as I
have been with you
[creaturefever] :-)
[Mambo
Sam] Empowered! Yes, that is what we are looking for.
[Mambo Sam]
Oh for sure, I just know that sometimes some of the folks get
afraid
and it is just part of the learning experience. :-)
[Mambo Sam]
But I don’t want anyone to be so afraid that it stops them
from
doing the ritual.
[Candelaria] Hey, if she was going to hurt you,
Sister Candi would send up
a flare or something!
:-D
[eveningstarmystic] And in my situation I am feeling less
empowered
[Mambo Sam] Fear and that adrenaline rush is good. As
long as it doesn’t
turn into something that blocks
you.
[Mambo Sam] Okay, so thank you all very, very much.
[Mambo
Sam] Just remember, THIS is what I am here for.
[vodoukat02] I
know the feeling of fear and believe me everyone, I have
been with
Mambo for a long time
[Mambo Sam] So, now we have an idea of
our team of Lwa. And we have an
idea of what they are good at.
:-)
[simonegreenewpp] comment...
[Mambo Sam] For
real!
[vodoukat02] sorry
[ouanga_bottle] (I still have a
question...) :-)
[Mambo Sam] It’s okay.
[Mambo Sam] I
know, I am sorry.... Where did we leave off on the
list?
Ouanga?
[ouanga_bottle] me me! :-) :-)
[Mambo Sam]
:-D
[ouanga_bottle] I did the Makayan service last year when HD
was nearly
strangled to death by her psycho ex boyfriend... would
it be appropriate
to bring out the spoon/fork/knife thingy during
this service? It was used
then for a specific purpose, but I have
incorporated it on my altar and
hold it for broader justice-type
requests... so I’m just wondering if it’s
appropriate,
since I’ve incorporated it more broadly on my
altar.
[ouanga_bottle] Also... when I did that service, I wasn’t
asking for power
for myself (I didn’t know the psycho), I
was asking for justice to be done
to psycho. (and it was).
[Mambo
Sam] Yes, you can. Use it.
[ouanga_bottle] awesome!
[smile4me]
?
[Mambo Sam] Hang on — did I miss anyone before Simone and
Smile4me — the
list rolled off my screen.
[waitingforastar]
:-D
[vodoukat02] :-D
[PATRICKinCALI] Do Andezo, Dlo &
Makaya have Saint likenesses? (typical
Catholic Patrick question)
:-)
[Mambo Sam] For our purposes, we use the Three Kings picture —
the three
wise men. :-)
[PATRICKinCALI] Gotcha!
[Mambo Sam]
Remember, this is the wrap up to our holiday
petitions/prayers.
[Mambo Sam] Okay any one else I missed
before Simone and Smile
[DestinyB] I think you cleared this up
about things not going wrong if we
make a mistake: none of this
can have a weird or adverse affect on HD in
any way if we do it
with good intentions and not for harm? As long as
intentions are
good?
[Mambo Sam] Right.
[DestinyB] Cool thanks! I tend to flub
things up a lot
[Mambo Sam] Honest mistakes don’t count as
doing something wrong. Ever.
[Mambo Sam] Anyone else in the missed
list? :-) From any part of tonight?
[DestinyB] Cool, thank you, I
need to remember to not get drunk during a
ritual except for Fet
Ghede. :-)
[Mambo Sam] :-D That was pretty funny.
[Mambo
Sam] Anyway....
[vodoukat02] comment
[DestinyB] :-D
[Mambo
Sam] Simone, then Smile4u then Vodoukat.... I
think..
[simonegreenewpp] I was just going to say, so much of this
fits my
situation that I think it’s very nice of Mambo Sam
to plan it all just for
me. :-) I hope it works for other people,
too. :-D I keep getting ideas of
how to petition and how it can
work really well on my HD.
[Mambo Sam] :-D — it’s all
about you, baby!
[simonegreenewpp] Yay me!
[Mambo Sam]
Hahahahahaha. :-)
[Mambo Sam] Smile4u?
[smile4me] For
next session do we just need to have our list of requests
ready?
Do we need anything specific to be prepared?
[Mambo Sam] For the
next session, I definitely would like you all to have
an idea at
least of what you want to accomplish. Then we will talk a
little
bit more about how that can happen. I mean it is up to you how
much
you want to share with the group. We can make sure that part
never makes
it to the transcripts.
[simonegreenewpp]
Yep!
[Mambo Sam] So I would like you to know what you want, and an
idea of how
you might work with each of the three Simbis to
accomplish that.
[Sunshine] That would be great and we do
appreciate.
[Mambo Sam] Sort of a game plan.
[Mambo Sam] And we
can go over some of them — probably a lot of group
questions
will get answered. :-)
[Mambo Sam] Vodoukat
[vodoukat02]
Right after I finished the ouanga bottle, my HD called me;
Candelaria
is my witness;)
[Mambo Sam] :-)
[Candelaria] I swear, in a
court of law! :-D
[vodoukat02] :-D
[Mambo Sam] Was that a
court of Lwa or law?
[ouanga_bottle] :-D
[Candelaria] BOTH
heehee Court of Lwa being much more powerful!
[Mambo Sam] That is
awesome!
[vodoukat02] that’s what Candelaria said
[Mambo
Sam] Okay, I am sure there will be a million questions next week!
And
that is fine. We want to get this right for the following
week!
[Mambo Sam] And remember, since we are using the three kings
picture as a
representation, you can use a kingcake as an
offering. If you don’t know
what that is, look it up on the
internet! :-D And order one!
[Candelaria] DAMN! I’ll
have to order yet another delicious King Cake!
[simonegreenewpp]
from?
[Mambo Sam] Randazzo’s or Gambino’s.
[Candelaria]
Randazzos
[REDANGEL] do they freeze well??
[Mambo Sam]
Yes.
[REDANGEL] thanx
[Mambo Sam] It’s like a coffee
cake.
[Candelaria] BUT BETTER
[Mambo Sam] I like Randazzo’s,
but Gambino’s is great. Two great new
Orleans *** families!
:-D No just kidding... really..
[Candelaria] :-D
[Mambo
Sam] Yikes — take that out, Simone!
[Candelaria] Sure you
are... (sticking my index finger beside my nose)
[simonegreenewpp]
Those are probably my relatives...
[Mambo Sam] Honestly, you can
find the name Gambino in the Kennedy
investigation books. That’s
them. :-D But they make a kick arse cake.
[Candelaria] Yep,
the Gambino family. Look it up. heehee
[Mambo Sam] Okay
kids...
[vodoukat02] I have to say good nite
[simonegreenewpp]
Don’t swallow the baby!
[Mambo Sam] I have to run.
:-)
[Mambo Sam] Love you all!!!!!
[Candelaria] Walk,
please!
[Mambo Sam] Good night.
[PATRICKinCALI] Good Night to
my “other” Mother and family!
[vodoukat02]
:-D
[heavenbls5] Love you all and thanks a lot
[Mambo Sam]
:-)
[ouanga_bottle] Love you Mambo Sam! And everyone
else!
[REDANGEL] Night all
[Candelaria] Night everyone! Candi
has to get to the drug store before it
closes.
:-)
[simonegreenewpp] Wow, they’re clearing out in a hurry!
All on their way
to the King Cake website
[Candelaria] Yep....
Good stuff. I already ate one. :-D
[simonegreenewpp] A
baby?
[simonegreenewpp] Ok, good night! Love ya!
[Candelaria]
Got it... guess that means I buy the next one... next week.
:-D
[Candelaria] OK, sorry everyone, but I’m going to have
to ask that we wrap
it up tonight. Simone and I have to get
going.
